Oloroso HHD since March 2022

Strathclyde distillery, located in the Gorbals district of Glasgow, produces grain whisky which is typically used as a component of blends. This single cask bottling from the distillery has been finished in an Oloroso hogshead for the last portion of its maturation. This has influenced the spirit beautifully, giving a nose of cherry menthol sweets and dark chocolate. On the palate, notes of cinnamon toast, toffee apples and chocolate orange were identified. On the finish, date syrup and flat cola lingered.

Strathclyde Information

Strathclyde has always managed to operate somewhat under the radar despite its location.

Built on the banks of the Clyde on the site of an old cotton mill, initially by London distiller Seager Evans in 1927 to supply neutral grain spirit for its gins. It began producing whisky from 1936.

In 1957 Strathclyde built a malt plant – Kinclaith – within its confines. This operated until 1975.

It is now owned by Chivas Brothers stable and still goes unnoticed by many the banks of the Clyde.
