Nose

Lots of green apple and cooking apple notes. Brandy snaps. As it spends time in the glass we get more malt & oat notes

Honeycomb, strudel, posh vanilla ice cream, faint spice

Pears, vanilla pods, Demerara sugar. Dry biscuity finish

Glenglassaugh

Found just beyond the village of Portsoy, Glenglassaugh initially looks to be a pretty traditional setup with an open-topped rake and plough mash tun, wooden washbacks and two stills. Only the presence of two stainless steel washbacks (part of a 1966 refurb) alters the impression that little has changed.

It has had a winding history; built in 1874 but closed in 1907 during an industry downturn. It eventually reopened in 1960 but didn't flourish in a blend-dominated market. It closed in '86 but once again reopened, this time in 2008, to the pleasant surprise of many.
